Rooted in London’s youth subculture and Britain’s vibrant arts and music scene, McQ was established in 2006 by Lee Alexander McQueen. Currently under the creative direction of Sarah Burton, the contemporary label re-interprets and reinvents house codes. Casual yet sophisticated, McQ signature aesthetic includes heritage plaids, eye-catching graphics and structured silhouettes. Transposing the late designer’s flair for eccentric British fashion through a range of zipper detailed jumpsuits, parachute silk parkas and chiffon printed shirt dresses, the line combines monochrome, minimalist designs with an androgyny reminiscent of ’80s era post-goth-punk subculture.
In 2006 the company launched McQ and with it, a range of monochrome separates designed to evoke the contemporary McQ attitude. The new line comprises men and women's ready-to-wear and accessories, which were exclusively designed by Lee Alexander McQueen himself. Initially promoted as a denim collection, the target demographic of McQ was a younger urban crowd. In 2011 the label announced it would open its first McQ boutique in London in 2012. In the same year it also announced that McQ would be presented at London Fashion Week for the first time, and that the new four-storey Georgian townhouse boutique would stock womenswear, menswear, and accessories.
