Tokyo-based, Paris-reared Julien David cut his design teeth in New York with American maestros Narciso Rodriguez and Ralph Lauren before striking out on his own in 2008. What started as a line of printed silk-twill scarves ultimately evolved into a fully-fledged line of womenswear that bridges the gap between high fashion and edgy streetwear. From platformed sneakers and T-shirt dresses to track pants and tees, David looks to subvert the quotidian with luxe finishes, inventive silhouettes and technologically sophisticated, Japanese-sourced fabrics. A 2012 recipient of the prestigious ANDAM prize, David has a graphic visual repertoire, fresh eye for easy elegance and a masterful knowledge of materials.
