Founded in 1936 in Paris by Auguste Michel, Maison Michel would later become the hatmaker of choice to Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Cardin, both of whom sought out the house for its ability to craft large, invisibly stitched hats then in vogue in the mid 1970s. By 1980, Maison Michel would became the go-to for some of the most prestigious names in haute couture and prêt-a-porter, including Christian Lacroix, Givenchy, Nina Ricci, Lanvin and Chanel. The latter would purchase Maison Michel in 1996, appointing its former head of jewelry and accessories, Laetitia Crahay, to Artistic Director.
Crahay imbues her spirited creations with a sensual refinement tempered by a dash of quirky edge. From classic styles like the boater, melon and trilby, to head jewelry and accessories impeccably crafted from feathers, lace, pearls and chains, each Maison Michel piece is modern, elegant and utterly unique.
