Diane von Furstenberg

It all started with a perfectly chic jersey wrap dress, and with that Diane von Furstenberg changed the course of womenswear, tapping into a new sense of liberation and ease that defined a decade. But don’t expect form to surpass fashion, Furstenberg has built an empire on her seventies trademark that now spans the globe. The jersey wrap dress still remains the label's signature, reinvented anew each season in a dazzling array of prints, embellishments and luxurious fabrics—such as graphic Art Deco prints, with leather accents and flamenco flair. With Scottish talent, Jonathan Saunders, reigning as creative director since 2016, the storied house welcomes a full collection of ready-to-wear and accessories all finished with elevating and irresistibly feminine details.

Diane von Furstenberg: Colourful, feminine fashion meets glamourous design

Diane von Furstenberg was born Diane Halfin in Brussels. While studying business administration, she met her future husband Egon von Fürstenberg and they married in 1969 before moving to New York together. Four years later, in 1973, Diane von Furstenberg pioneered her jersey wrap dress which was a phenomenal success due to its unique design – an example of which is still on show in the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 1985, von Furstenberg sold her eponymous brand and went to Paris on sabbatical with her husband before returning to the fashion world in 1997: "Suddenly I saw many actresses in my vintage clothes and shoes," says the designer. "I could not believe that people were willing to spend so much on my designs! But this spurred me to make a fresh start”. Success was inevitable and today von Furstenberg is regarded as one of the world’s top designers and renowned for adding a glamorous twist to contemporary women’s fashion.

Diane von Furstenberg: Creations for the red carpet

The success of her wrap dress allowed von Furstenberg to become the woman she wanted to be. Today, the DvF collection includes colorful wrap blouses, halter-neck tops, jackets and shoes that evoke the retro feel of her collections, such as open-toe wedges and ballerina pumps. It is von Fürstenberg’s unique blend of playfulness and femininity that has garnered her so much attention: It isn’t unusual to spot world-famous stars donning her creations on the red carpet, with Jade Jagger, Gwyneth Paltrow and Drew Barrymore among her biggest supporters.
