We live on Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach; we absolutely love the marina’s charm. First thing on Sunday mornings, we usually have coffee in our backyard, overlooking the boats in the harbor. When we’re done, we wake up our three-year-old son Charlie. While he plays with his toys, Dad and I set the table and make Charlie’s all-time favorite breakfast: chocolate chip pancakes.
Time to squeeze in a weekend workout! I go to my favorite kickboxing class, and the boys head over to Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy, where Charlie gets to learn the importance of discipline—he loves it and really looks forward to class each week.
Our muscles are sore and appetites are soaring—time for lunch! We head to our favorite diner, The Galley in Newport Beach. Charlie gets a grilled cheese sandwich and shares a chocolate shake with Kris, while I order a salad and a latte. Charlie entertains us with funny jokes before Kris and I chat about our upcoming summer plans, including a family vacation in Miami, business trips to New York and Europe, and a visit to Corpus Christi, Texas to see family.
After lunch, we typically hop on our bikes and ride over to the beach. (The wonderful weather is one of the best things about living in southern California!) We slather on the sunscreen, lie down our towels, and spend the afternoon lounging and hanging with friends. Kris takes pleasure in documenting the day with his Leica film camera.
